Saturday Membership Meetings with Sunday Workshops

Our recent weekend with Linda Carlson and Rosemary Eichorn in Fond du Lac was terrific - it was great to see so many members and guests there. Come to a meeting, see what we are all about, and then join to receive membership benefits, including a reduced meeting and workshop rate, and the quarterly newsletter.

October 5 & 6, 2002 - Karen Stone and Cathie Hoover, Best Western Royale Inn, Stevens Point, WI

Karen Stone's lecture is "Trunk Show." She is a well known quilter and has won many awards for her glorious designs, color, and piecing techniques. She began teaching in 1990 and published her first designs in 1993. Her quilts have appeared in international competitions and on covers of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. The trunk show presentation will include many of her early quilts as well as works in progress. Her Sunday workshop is her classic "New York Beauty," which will cover the basics of paper foundation piecing, curved piecing, include a drafting lesson, and a discussion of organization of color in quilts. This quilt is featured on the cover of her book.

Cathie Hoover's lecture is "Trunk Show of Quilts and Garments" - a truly moo-ving experience. Not only will you enjoy seeing these colorful and whimsical items modeled for you, but get a bit of Cathie's wry humor as she narrates as well. The garments will be modeled by WQI members and can be examined closely by the audience. Questions will be answered about them as well. Cathie enjoys the challenge of designing innovative new pieces. She will share trade secrets, techniques and materials that she has learned in her fifteen years of experience. She is also the co-editor of the AQS magazine, American Quilter, and may look familiar to you from seeing her at Paducah each year. Her Sunday workshop is "Technique Sampler" where you will learn an assortment of techniques such as piped and lined prairie points, Afghani piecework, Seminole patchwork, Origami puffs, 3-D knots, and chop suey piecework. You'll be able to incorporate these into a wearable garment or a quilt. Learn the skill in class, keep it as a reference. A great experience for a beginner or intermediate quilter.

You don't have to be a member to attend the meeting - try us out and come to Stevens Point!
